LANSING & WARREN, Mich., March 12, 2015 – Davenport University is launching a new Bachelor of Science in Biological Laboratory Science degree which will prepare students to work in a laboratory setting as a Research Assistant or Technician. The specific focus on preparing students for a career in a biological research laboratory setting is a key differentiator from other bachelor degrees in biology typically offered at other institutions in Michigan.

“Students who earn this unique degree will be able to find positions in academic, industrial and government settings,” stated Dr. Tom Lonergan, Dean of Davenport’s College of Arts and Sciences. “For example, they could get a position at a biotechnology manufacturing company producing products like new vaccines or drugs, or in a medical research laboratory, a government regulatory agency or in a forensic lab.”

This program will serve as a bachelor’s completion program for students who have earned an Associate degree in Biotechnology and will prepare students to apply for graduate programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, medicine, dental, veterinary sciences and pharmacy.

“This program was created as a part of Davenport’s continuing efforts to satisfy a strong need identified in the marketplace,” said Dr. Linda Rinker, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academics. “We’re hearing from employers that positions that require the skills learned with this degree program are going unfilled, so we’re responding to that market need.

Applications are currently being accepted for classes beginning fall 2015 at Davenport’s Lansing and Warren campuses. For more information about call 800-686-1600 or visit
