Associated Builders and Contractors grants wish at 30th annual Make-A-Wish Fundraiser!

Associated Builders and Contractors – Greater Michigan Chapter is pleased to announce having raised a record $30,000 at the 2015 dinner/dance benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan.

Since the chapter began working with Make-A-Wish as part of its ABC Cares initiative, they have raised over $500,000 allowing wishes to be granted to more than 90 area children.

“It is a true honor to be a part of such an amazing organization. The volunteers, staff and community who help make this event possible are beyond generous in their giving. Their gifts, donations and time are what makes the kids wishes become a reality,” said Jennifer Smith, 2015 Event Co-Chair.

The dinner/dance was held in May at The Great Hall located inside Valley Plaza Resort in Midland with over 400 guests in attendance. Funds raised from the event were used to sponsor wishes of three children in the Great Lakes Bay Region who are bravely facing their health challenges.

This year was exceptionally emotional and rewarding for everyone involved as a Make-A-Wish Wish was actually granted to a child at the event. ABC was contacted nearly 2 years ago with a wish from a Michigan boy for a tree house. Who better than to help make this wish come true than a group of contractors? Cody was a 13 year old suffering with Leukemia who just wanted a place to get away and call his own. Immediately the offers for labor and supplies came in from ABC member companies. Due to some unforeseen issues that the family had, the project was put on hold. Now, two years later, 15-year old Cody’s wish come true!

Under the supervision and leadership of Erick Forshee of Fisher Companies, support and donations from other generous ABC member companies and in conjunction with area high school students participating in the ABC Jump Start program an amazing tree house was built.

Cody’s family was brought to Midland for the ABC Dinner/Dance event while Erick and a group of volunteers went to their house and installed the structure. During the event the Cody was presented with the “Key” to his castle. It was a moment that no one in attendance will forget. What a way to put the gifts and talents of our local skilled tradesmen to use!

The planning committee is already looking forward to beginning preparations for next years event and hoping to raise another record amount for the organization.
