The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce donates $18,449 to Lansing Promise

On Tuesday, June 30, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s (LRCC) Lansing Economic Club presented the Lansing Promise scholarship program with $18,449 as part of the Evening with Magic Johnson event.

The April 30 Lansing Economic Club dinner event was deemed a “million dollar evening” as contributions to the Lansing Promise exceeded all expectations and came in at more than $1 million. Earvin “Magic” Johnson donated $300,000 among the many contributions from other donors.

“The Lansing Promise scholarship not only helps to lead Lansing’s students to brighter futures, but also provides a talent pipeline for our regions business community.” said Tim Daman, President and CEO, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud to see the way that Lansing has responded to this great cause and excited to see the impact it has on our community.”

The Lansing Promise organization is a part of the Michigan Promise Zone Authorities created as a result of legislation passed in 2009. With a goal of transforming communities by providing higher educational opportunities at no or low cost, Lansing Promise awards students scholarships up to an associate’s degree at Lansing Community College and the equivalent at Michigan State University.

“On behalf of Lansing Promise, we are all appreciative of the Lansing Regional Chamber for making this incredible donation,” said Kellie Dean, president and CEO of Dean Transportation and chair of the Lansing Promise Board of Directors. “The Chamber and its many members have played an integral role in this historical event in contributing to the futures of our students and community.”

Lansing Promise directly benefits Lansing by increasing the number of high school and college graduates, helping to retain and attract jobs and business investment in the Greater Lansing region. This provides the potential to raise personal income that supports local businesses and revitalize core urban areas and strengthen the Lansing community’s social fabric.

The mission of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) is to be the preeminent business advocacy organization in the Greater Lansing region by collaborating for economic growth, creating new opportunities for our members and upholding pro-business ideals through the advancement of sound public policy.
