New manager, new direction for the Lansing City Market

Lansing, Michigan—September 1, 2015—The Lansing City Market has been operating with an interim City Market Manager since May, while they conducted a thorough interview process to find the candidate with the right combination of skills and experience in the areas of management, sales, and communication. They found Audrey Tipper, a communications team member at Impression 5 Science Center and who had in the past, served as Assistant General Manager for Best Western in Grand Rapids. She holds a bachelor of arts in hospitality and tourism management from Grand Valley State University. The Lansing Entertainment and Public Facilities Authority, who manages the market, hired her for the manager position in late August of this year. “I am pleased to be a part of the amazing LEPFA team and working to revitalize and expand the Market for all ages,” said Tipper.

With larger grocers fully stocking their organic food options and 26 area farmers markets in existence, the Lansing City Market says it is once again time to refresh their strategic direction. They feel it is the perfect time to do so, after hiring Tipper.

Officials at LEPFA say that while they are committed to respectfully serving their past traditions as a farmers market, they must take into account an ever-changing business landscape and evolving customer desires.

Objectives for the new year include achieving and maintaining a level of merchant occupancy that will meet their financial targets and customer needs, improving customer traffic, correcting perceptions of parking and accessibility, maintaining strong relationships with vendors, and possibly most important of all, solidifying their transition from a strictly farmers market to an urban market supplying artisanal products and foods. “It is my understanding that we are in final negotiations with a brand new anchor tenant. The consensus is that this new tenant will play a major part in taking the City Market in the new direction we want to go, and serve tomorrow’s customer,” explained Tipper.
