Under the Bridge crowd funding campaign reaches initial goal of raising $50,000

LANSING, MI – The Under the Bridge project has reached its initial goal of raising $50,000, thanks to several more private-sector organizations that have recently pledged their support. Project organizers encourage individuals or businesses to still consider making a donation in this final day of the campaign to help fund additional lighting options to enhance people’s experience under the bridge.

The Under the Bridge project will transform a critical intersection along Michigan Avenue and the US127 overpass and will create a vibrant pedestrian and biker-friendly gateway connecting the cities of Lansing and East Lansing.

Michigan State University recently confirmed a pledge of $5,000 in support of the campaign, while LAFCU committed to a $2,500 pledge to push the campaign over the $50,000 mark. In addition to the previously announced large donors, the campaign wishes to mention and thank the following individuals and businesses for donating at the $1,000 level: Accident Fund Holdings, Harvest Creative Services, John Kaczynski,
Gillespie Company, Gillespie Group, Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau and Capital Imaging.

The funding will be used to install vandalism-resistant and maintenance-friendly lighting as well as four large murals and additional artwork to the bridge overpass which will be completed by local artist, Brian Whitfield. Now that the campaign has reached its crowd funding goal of $50,000, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will provide an additional $50,000 matching grant through the Public Spaces, Community Places program to fund the program. The fundraising campaign ends today, Friday, September 11 – the organizers encourage and welcome contributions of any size to make the project bigger and better.

“The Under the Bridge project will revitalize a critical area of the entire region and the level of private-sector support we have received to help make the project a reality is phenomenal. It shows that these companies are passionate about this placemaking initiative and their commitment to talent attraction and showcasing this global community,” said Bob Trezise, President and CEO of LEAP.
