Sparrow teams up with Mayo, MSU for free community forum on concussion management

LANSING, MI – Every time a student-athlete hits the field, he or she faces the risk of sustaining a concussion.

As part of our mission to improve the health of the people in the mid-Michigan region, Sparrow is teaming up Mayo Clinic and Michigan State University experts to discuss concussion management during a free community forum on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Sports-related head injuries are a huge health concern and also the focus of a Will Smith movie due out in December. Concussion is based on the true story of a forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known.

Our free community forum Concussions: Managing ‘Brain Sprain’ runs from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center Auditorium, 219 S. Harrison Road, East Lansing. Complimentary parking is available in the ramp.

To register, call 1.800.Sparrow (772.7769) or visit Walk-ins are welcome to attend the event.

Speakers include Cara C. Prideaux, M.D., Mayo Clinic, Sports Medicine, Brooke Lemmen, D.O., Sparrow and MSU Sports Medicine Physician, and Randolph Pearson, M.D., Team Physician, MSU Football.

This is an excellent opportunity to shed light on concussions, a very real health concern for student-athletes. Dr. Lemmen is available for media interviews this week and next, prior to the event. Please contact Lori Dougovito in Sparrow’s Marketing Department at 517.364.8057 to schedule an interview.
