$4.8M South Lansing Gateway Project Announced

Bill Snethkamp dealership expansion will spur additional economic development projects

LANSING, MI – Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and LEAP announced today that the Bill Snethkamp’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership will renovate and expand their South Pennsylvania location. The development will take place over three stages resulting in $4.8 million in new private investment in the City of Lansing.

In the first phase, the current Snethkamp dealership will expand its footprint on South Pennsylvania. This portion of the development will conclude by the end of 2015. Adjacent to the dealership expansion includes the former Governor’s Inn site that will be redeveloped into a new, high-end Alfa Romeo/FIAT auto dealership. The remaining land located at 1000 Ramada Drive will be marketed for the development of a hotel or other commercial use by creating access to the property and bringing the required utilities to the property.

“It has been wonderful working with the City of Lansing and LEAP to bring this South Lansing project to fruition. The addition of the Chrysler Jeep franchises is now complete, and work has now begun to bring you a new Alpha Romeo/Fiat dealership in the very near future!” said Mark Snethkamp.

“The Snethkamp expansion will breathe new life into a key commercial corridor on the city’s South side and set the stage for even more new investments,” said Mayor Bernero.  “Working together with LEAP and the private sector, we will continue to focus on development opportunities that bring new investment and new jobs to South Lansing.”

“This project will spur quality economic development activity in South Lansing, an area in need of support from private sector developers,” said Bob Trezise, President and CEO of LEAP. “This project comes at a great time when LEAP is working on creating an economic development strategy for the Southwest Lansing area.”

The Snethkamp expansion project was approved for a  20-year Brownfield incentive by the Lansing Brownfield Redevelopment Authority last week and will require approval by the Lansing City Council in the coming weeks. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2017.
