Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce urges City of Lansing to finalize medical marijuana ordinance

The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) gave its strong endorsement to a vote by the State Senate to pass a package of bills that set new regulations on Michigan’s medical marijuana industry. The legislation will provide guidance for local municipalities on how to regulate medical marijuana and dispensaries.

“This package of bills is a common sense approach to properly and safely regulate the medical marijuana industry in Michigan,” said Steve Japinga, LRCC director of government relations. “The State Senate is to be commended for its leadership in adopting this legislation.”

LRCC believes the passage of new regulations at the state level should provide impetus for the City of Lansing to finalize adoption of a much needed medical marijuana ordinance. Earlier this year LRCC was successful in convincing the city to impose a moratorium on medical marijuana establishments to allow time for new state and local regulations to be put in place.

“We ask the Mayor and Lansing City Council to capitalize on the momentum created by the state legislature and finalize a sensible plan for all the citizens of Lansing,” said Japinga.
