If providing business-to-business connectivity and growth opportunities for area businesses were the goals, then the first Metro Lansing Procurement Summit should be considered an unqualified success. The Procurement Summit, held on April 8 at the Lansing Center, was sponsored by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC), Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) and Pure Michigan Business Connect.

The Procurement Summit was a matchmaking event connecting buyers from participating companies to pre-qualified Michigan suppliers from around the region. The targeted experience was intended to help purchasing and procurement teams fill procurement gaps. There were 14 buyers participating in the summit. Of the more than 160 participating purchasers, 82 represented small businesses in the region.

“The Procurement Summit was an outstanding opportunity for small businesses in Greater Lansing to diversify and grow their customer base,” said Tim Daman, LRCC president and CEO. “The summit provided a venue to support business-to-business connectivity which is an important mission of the Chamber.”

The Chamber’s 10 Leadership Circle members account for more than $630 million in annual B2B economic impact in the region. Six of the 10 participated as buyers at the summit, including AF Group, Farm Bureau Insurance, Granger, Michigan State University, MSUFCU, and Two Men and A Truck.

“Our Leadership Circle members have a strong commitment to support small business growth in our region,” said Daman. “Their involvement in the Procurement Summit further underscores their recognition of the importance of small business growth in Greater Lansing.”
