After 42 years of outstanding service and leadership to Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan and its affiliated companies, Jim Robinson, Chief Executive Officer for Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan, announced his retirement, effective June 1, 2018. A committee will begin the search for his successor later in the year.

“Few leaders in any organization could rival the contribution Jim has made to Farm Bureau Insurance,” said Carl Bednarski, President, Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies. “As CEO, his visionary leadership has helped the organization achieve a number of important milestones and will allow Farm Bureau Insurance to thrive well beyond his tenure.”

Robinson’s time as CEO is marked by substantial growth and organizational achievements. Farm Bureau Insurance remains the number one protector of farming businesses and families in the state. Farm Bureau Insurance’s Life Company surpassed 100,000 policies in force and is consistently recognized by The Ward Group as one of the top 50 performing life insurance companies in the nation.

Along with his commitment to the company’s mission, Robinson was also integral in maintaining a family atmosphere within the organization. In 2015 and 2016, the Detroit Free Press recognized Farm Bureau Insurance as one of the Top 100 places to work in the state.

“I’ve been honored and privileged to work with countless people across the organization during my career,” said CEO Robinson. “Over the past 42 years, what I’ve enjoyed more than anything is that we make a difference together as we serve the people and communities across our great state of Michigan.”

Robinson joined Farm Bureau Insurance in September of 1975 as a Sales Promotion Assistant. In September of 1977, he was promoted to Marketing Research Analyst. He served in that capacity until April 1986, when he accepted the position of Director of Field Communications. In 1988, he earned another promotion to Director of Marketing Administration. In September of 1998, Robinson was promoted again to Vice President of Policyholder Services Life & P/C. In April of 2003, he changed roles to become Vice President of Marketing. In December of 2004, Robinson was selected as Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for Farm Bureau Insurance.

Through his service on various boards, committees and associations, Robinson also provided proven leadership within the insurance industry. In addition, he received several awards and honors throughout his career for his community efforts, including participation in the Sparrow Foundation, Ele’s Place, and continuous devotion to Michigan State University and the Spartans.

“Jim’s passion, vision, commitment, integrity, and sense of humor will truly be missed,” said Bednarski.
