On Saturday, October 28, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Ingham Intermediate School District’s (ISD) Special Education Parent Advisory Committee will host a Transition Fair at 611 Hagadorn Road on the Mason campus. Many community partners attend our transition fair to support students and families and help them understand the resources available as they enter into young adulthood. Families from Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties are encouraged to stop in and talk with numerous educational and community agencies to develop a plan of success for their students. Partner agencies will be there to provide information about independent living, post-secondary education, transportation, recreational options, employment opportunities and much more.

As young adults make their plans, some need minimal support while others need more assistance with planning. “This day is about helping families find resources for their children. We hope families will take advantage of this opportunity to connect with key community agencies and learn about resources to develop future living and employment plans. Sometimes knowing where to go for help is the largest challenge to overcome. As students with disabilities transition from high school to adulthood, there are many exciting opportunities to consider,” states Andrew Rable, Executive Director of Student Support Services at Ingham ISD.

Students will also be able to participate in a pre-interview skills session and attend a social security benefit counseling session. In addition, more than 20 community partner agencies, will be on-site to assist families with everything from housing to employment, including: Michigan Rehabilitative Services, Peckham Inc., Capital Area College Access Network, Disabilitynetwork Capital Area of Lansing and many more. Again this year, we will have some young entrepreneurs selling items from their businesses. Please support them as they begin their journey into the business world.

Ingham Intermediate School District supports twelve local school districts and ten public school academies in its service area which reaches into seven counties in the mid-Michigan area. The local school districts include: Dansville, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Lansing, Leslie, Mason, Okemos, Stockbridge, Waverly, Webberville and Williamston.
