KATIE JOHN
VICE PRESIDENT
MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
Katie John serves as Michigan State University's Vice President for Government Relations. In her role, Katie represents MSU in advocacy before federal, state, and local governments, regulatory agencies, and key policymakers. Katie works closely with MSU faculty, staff, students, and administrators to develop and advance MSU’s strategic government relations agenda.
Katie brings over 20 years of legislative experience, with a focus on higher education funding and policy. Prior to joining the MSU team, Katie served as the Associate Vice President of Government Affairs at Western Michigan University, having held that position since 2006. Prior to her work at WMU she held positions at the Senate Democratic Policy Office, Senate Democratic Communications staff, and the Office of Senate Minority Leader Bob Emerson. She earned a B.A. from Michigan State University and an M.P.A. from Western Michigan University.
DEAN MAZZONI
PRESIDENT AND CEO
MCLAREN GREATER LANSING
Dean Mazzoni brings decades of executive healthcare leadership to his role as President and CEO of McLaren Greater Lansing. Prior to joining McLaren, he spent ten years with Franciscan Alliance—a 12-hospital Midwest health system—most recently serving as President and CEO of the Michigan City Division. In this capacity, he directed strategic operations for an acute care hospital, a 400-member medical staff, and an extensive network of ambulatory, emergency, surgical, cancer, and imaging centers.
During his tenure at Franciscan Alliance, Dean spearheaded the design, construction, and launch of a brand-new hospital facility, successfully expanded key clinical services, and drove significant improvements in safety and patient satisfaction. He also assumed dual executive oversight for the system's Dyer and Munster divisions, leading a major market consolidation plan across a $1 billion regional health network.
Dean holds a Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Public Health in Healthcare Administration from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (UMDNJ), and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
ANN MARIE CREED
PRESIDENT
UOFM HEALTH - SPARROW LANSING
Ann Marie Creed is the President of UofM Health- Sparrow Lansing starting in May 2025. Sparrow Lansing is a 573 bed Level 1 trauma center serving the mid-Michigan region. Prior to joining UofM Health Sparrow Lansing, Ann Marie was an executive with Henry Ford Health. At Henry Ford Health she held multiple positions including VP System Capacity, VP Operations, VP Surgical Services, and several others.
She also served as interim president of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, as vice president of Henry Ford’s Wyandotte hospital and in administrative roles with the Henry Ford Medical Group and the Wayne State Health Physician Group. Ann Marie is also skilled in the integration of health systems and had been working on Ascension hospitals’ joining Henry Ford. Ann Marie’s accomplishments at Henry Ford include overseeing creation of the system’s virtual intensive care unit, nursing and sitter programs; consolidation of beds and transfers across the system; serving as operations lead during the pandemic; increasing surgical volume; and improving the nursing turnover rate.
 Ann Marie has deep Michigan roots and received her Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Central Michigan University and her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Wayne State University. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE); is board certified as a medical practice executive from the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE); and is a certified green belt in Lean Six Sigma. She has served on committees of the Henry Ford Medical Group Board of Governors and the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber. She also currently serves on the Board of the Ingham County Health Centers.
