Broad Coalition Backs City Charter Proposal on November 4, 2025 Ballot

LANSING, Mich. – A broad coalition of Lansing’s labor unions and business community leaders today announced the formation of the Vote Yes Lansing 2025 Ballot Committee, dedicated to supporting the proposed City of Lansing Charter amendment on the November 4, 2025 general election ballot.

The proposed charter, the product of more than two years of work by the Lansing City Charter Commission, will modernize Lansing’s government to better serve residents, strengthen accountability, and position the city for long-term success.

Key updates in the proposed City Charter include:

· Expanding City Council from 8 to 9 members, with 5 ward seats and 4 at-large seats.

· Establishing an independent internal auditor reporting directly to City Council.

· Requiring the Mayor to present a strategic plan each term, ensuring long-term vision and accountability.

· Allowing “best value” procurement standards, encouraging efficiency and innovation in city contracts.

· Enhancing transparency through measures such as an online tax and debt dashboard.

“The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce strongly supports this balanced, forward-looking proposal,” said Tim Daman, President & CEO, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce “It will strengthen governance, increase transparency, and provide the accountability that residents, businesses, and workers deserve.”

The Vote Yes Lansing 2025 Committee will lead the campaign to educate voters on the benefits of the proposal and mobilize broad support ahead of Election Day.
