The following statement regarding the passing today of James Butler can be attributed to Tim Daman, President and CEO, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce:

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of James Butler, who was a true business and community leader. James was the second African American to serve as chair of the Board of Directors of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, holding that leadership position in 2001. He also served in leadership positions with the Lansing Regional Chamber Political Action Committee. He was a dedicated community servant who served in leadership positions with many organizations and was committed to building a better region. James Butler served his country and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He was honored with the John. E Demmer Award by Volunteers of America Michigan. He leaves a legacy that will be remembered by those who knew and worked with him on many important community issues through the years. He will be missed.”
